Privacy Mode · on by default, included with Pro and Team
Your dictation history will never photobomb a screen share again
The second you start sharing your screen, Dicta hides your History, Statistics and meeting transcripts behind a placeholder, no click required. Stop sharing and everything is back exactly where you left it.
Privacy Mode is included with Pro and Team, on by default, and it ships with the 7-day Pro trial too, so you can see it before you pay for it.
Shown, not told
The swap happens before anyone on the call notices
Detection and hiding both happen on your Mac: nothing about it touches the network.
What it does
A privacy reflex, not a setting you have to remember
The instant sharing starts
Dicta notices the moment macOS reports your screen is being shared or mirrored and swaps sensitive panes for a plain placeholder before anyone on the call can see them. Detection is local and best-effort: it watches the same window-server session flag any screen-share-aware app relies on.
History, Statistics and meeting transcripts, covered
Everything that could reveal what you have been dictating, typing about or saying in meetings gets the same treatment: your searchable history, your usage statistics and streaks, and your meeting transcript library, all hidden behind one placeholder for as long as sharing lasts.
Restores itself, no click needed
The moment your screen stops being shared, everything comes back exactly where you left it. There is no manual toggle to remember to flip back, and nothing about your data changes while it was hidden: it was only display, never deletion.
On by default, nothing to configure
Privacy Mode is on from the day you install Dicta, no setup screen, no opt-in flow. It lives in its own Privacy Mode tab in Settings if you ever want to turn it off, but you never have to touch it for it to work.
How it knows
A best-effort read of one signal, not a guess
Dicta polls the same window-server session flag macOS itself uses to know a screen is being captured or mirrored, checking every few seconds while the app is open. That is deliberately a best-effort signal, not a promise against every conceivable capture method, so Privacy Mode is one more layer of privacy by default, not a substitute for judgment about what you say and show on a call.
Local, always
Nothing about hiding your history ever leaves your Mac
Detecting a screen share, swapping in the placeholder, and restoring your panes afterward all happen on-device, the same as everything else Dicta does. No screenshot of what was hidden is taken, nothing is logged to a server, and nothing about this feature needs a network connection to work.
Included with Pro and Team
On by default, with no extra step to turn it on
Privacy Mode is included with every Pro and Team license, on by default, at no extra cost on top of the plan. It also ships with the 7-day Pro trial, so you get the same protection while you are still deciding whether to pay for Dicta.
