Writing styles · included with Pro

One voice in chat, another in e-mail, from the same dictation

You talk the same way whether you're firing off a Slack message or writing to a client. Dicta doesn't: it reads which app your cursor is in and rewrites what you said to fit, on-device by default, before it ever gets pasted.

Writing styles are part of Pro, and they ship at launch alongside the rest of the app, not later.

Try it

The same sentence, five ways

One dictation, restyled five different ways. Dicta only shows you the one your app is mapped to; this is every default style side by side.

You saidcan we catch up next week, let me know when you're free

lets catch up next wk, lmk when ur free

Resolved automatically, per app

Dicta reads which app you're dictating into and picks the matching style for you.

How it works

Automatic by default, yours to override

Five styles, ready on day one

Chat, Professional, Academic, Notes and Prompt ship built in, each a tone plus a set of formatting rules, not just a slider. Every one of them is yours to edit: rewrite the instructions, change the formatting, make it match how you actually write.

Resolves itself, per app

Dicta captures which app you're dictating into and works out the right style on its own: an explicit override you set beats a mapping for that one app, which beats a mapping for its category (Messaging, Professional, AI tools, Development, Other), which beats your default style. No app mapped means no rewrite: your words, untouched.

Flip it by hand, anytime

The automatic mapping is a default, not a cage. A Style menu in the menu bar switches your active style with one click, and the Styles pane in Settings does the same with a picker, both changes taking effect on your very next dictation.

Write your own

The five defaults are a starting point. Add a style with your own free-text instructions and formatting rules, assign it to any app or category, and it runs through the same local model as everything else.

Local, always

By default, the rewrite never leaves your Mac

Picking a style, resolving it per app, and running the rewrite all happen on-device by default, using the same local model as your dictation and your corrections. There is no cloud style picker and no server in the loop by default: pull the network cable and every style still works. Dicta Pro also lets you connect an external AI provider instead, off by default; see Privacy for the full detail.
